This report – by Sifu Tony Child
Total Martial Arts -Swindon took two of their Muay Thai
fighters to Cambridge this weekend to compete at the prestigious King of Kings 5 Show, hosted by Singto gym.
This was another big jump for TMA , two fighters competing
against top thai fighters . The line up was a “whos who” of C, B and A class
pro fighters from top UKMF thai boxing
schools .
Fight one was a semi -pro thai fight with C class rules.
Daniel Dubose -Tma Predators, vs Hudson Bowei Han . From the highly regarded
Singto gym, Cambridge.
From the second Hudson lept over the ropes oozing with total
pride, and full of confidence, looking every inch the seasoned pro and strode
into the ring we knew at the TMA corner
it was going to be quite a challenge .With Hudson already booked up to fight in
two weeks it looked like this fight was planned as his warm up. But, never to
turn down a challenge,Daniel looked totally focused and physically ripped beyond belief.
Both fighters traditionally sealed the ring in respect to
the sport. When Hudson got to the TMA blue corner he was most aggressive
showing he meant bussiness.
Both fighters came straight out with Hudson throwing aggressive
,highly skilled kick punch combos. Dubose, taken a little by surprise , crushed and returned a
few solid kick and punch combos. Then they clinched up with Hudson sent flying
to the canvas. When both fighters restarted Hudson looked slightly less
confident than at the start. The fight continued with a flurry of kick punch
kick combos towards Dubose. Then, a more
relaxed looking Dubose executed a highly
sophisticated ,leg catch sending Hudson
somersaulting up in the air and landing on his neck/ shoulder. -Instant knock
out. The fight was over.
Several worrying minutes past as Hudson remained on the
canvas being assessed by the medics but every bit a top thai fighter- Hudson
recovered and was taken out for a full medical check.
This was without doubt the best knock out of the night with
everyone totally surprised at the local guy being taken out in this way.
Fight two,James Mcquillian- TMA Predators vs Richard Rees of
Devils Gym.
James’ first C class semi pro fight would not be a easy one
.But as the ringmaster announced the fight
it became obvious he was in for one tough challenge.
Richard walked in a very ripped, confident and every inch
the seasoned pro.
James performed the traditional sealing of the ring and both fighters touched gloves respectfully
.
War began, James threw some excellent high kicks and a
couple of punches. But true to form Richard attacked and total controlled the
clinch.
With dozens of knees both fighters stood toe to toe.
Round 2-much the same but James showed he was not going to
be a walk over , also ripped and in optimum fitness, James landed some very
impressive kicks.
Round 3 -James started to now get into his stride and began
to relax and return kicks and punches, but was closed down by some brilliant
clinch work from Richard. Now Richard was upping his game by throwing loads of
knees from the clinch. James fought back with people wondering how he could
take such blows.
Round 3 – James now came out all guns blazing ,throwing
loads of heavy punches and kicks, Richard looked like he was struggling to
fight James at long range, but was smart and tied James up with some punishing clinch knee work. The TMA
team were surprised at how long the ref allowed such long clinching , unseen in
other fights during the evening.
Round 4-Both fighters
clashed knee to leg with James apparently coming off slightly worse from
the accidental clash of limbs.James showed
true heart and pure spirt by fighting on and showing no signs of being
hurt.
Round 5- Final round. James started to own the fight and put his
more experienced opponent under pressure.
But once again Richard choice to clinch James to avoid being hit at long and
mid range. James looked far superior while kicking and punching but once again was
totally controlled in the clinch , taking loads of rib- breaking knee strikes. Every
one was totally amazed at how much James could take and give out
In the end James lost a quite close match to a top club.
James, feeling upset with himself and as though he had let
himself down was congratulated by the other teams trainer, saying he could not believe anyone could take such
blows. And said he had seen international fighters with less staying power
under such pressure. He also said the level being demonstrated by TMA was
growing and congratulated our fight training methods.
A fantasic trip out for TMA Swindon.
Now the two fighters are preparing for the prestigious Four
Nations B- class tournament, next month at Birmingham NEC. We wish them all the
best.
