TMA students at Born To Fight interclub, Cambridge

Thank you to James Fisher for this
report.
On Sat 24th March 4 Members Of TMA Swindon went to Singto Muay Thai
in Cambridge for Born To Fight 10 Interclub.

Nathan Fisher (TMA) was matched
against an opponent from Battlefield Muay Thai
Round 1 – Nathans Opponent
came out the block fast and furious throwing a barrage of punch and kick
combinations, Nathan kept his guard up and chin down blocking some hard head
kicks, He took a few kicks to the leg and crushed a few countering well at the
same time, with some nice punch combinations.
Round 2 – Similar to 1st round,
He got caught with a few bombs recovered well which made his opponent uneasy and
threw some bombs back, Nathan made good use of his reach using his jab teep and
rear kicks, its hard to be technical when the other fighter is trying to
separate your head from shoulders, Nathan showed good composure.
Round 3 -
Nathan worked on combinations and footwork to take his opponents kicks away from
him, checking a majority of kicks thrown then exchanginhg punches to the face,
his opponent started to tire so Nathan upped the pressure but was still cautious
of his heavy punches and kicks
Rounds 4 & 5  several times Nathan had his
opponent against the ropes and unleashed a fury of punch combinations, he got in
the clinch a couple of times, turned his opponent, utilised some nice knees and
threw some nice punches on way out of clinch. There were times when Nathan
could have finished his opponent but hesitated as this was only an interclub,
all in all a was a great fight.

Mike Walker (TMA) Vs Fighter from
Fusion MMA (TBC) – This was Mikes 1st interclub, i said it would be hard
sparring it was a war.
Round 1 – Mikes Opponent threw some heavy bombs from
the outset.  A lot of people would have crumbled at this much pressure in their
1st interclub Mike didnt. He recovered well and started to work the basics,
throwing punch and kick combos pushing his opponent onto the ropes and working
his boxing.
Round 2 – Similar to round 1 but Mike knew what to expect now.
Mike was working his footwork to get in and out and looked comfortable, He took
some hard leg kicks and counter kicked but was aware his opponent had the kick
advantage, so replied with several hard punches
Round 3 – Still working at
the same high tempo from the previous 2 rounds both fighters where starting to
tire, Mike got rocked a few times but was determined not to get bullied and
countered aggresively, Mike maintained good body and head movement avoiding a
spinning back kick to the head that would have been a Nasty KO. Mike also
avoided spinning back kick to body which would of been a devastating liver shot.
he then worked his opponent on the ropes unleashing a furious combination of
punches.
Round 4 – This was a tough round Mikes front leg was getting
attacked and the more it did the less he could check the next kick, Mike worked
on more evasive footwork and continued to push his opponent on ropes and unleash
those punches, They clinched a few times which was one of Mikes concerns, But
Mike did well to turn his opponent and land some nice knees then break out and
throw some more punches.
Round 5 – Another tough round, both fighters were
stood in the pocket exchanging blows, then moving around working different
combos, Mike clinched his opponent again and they both exchanged some nice
knees, you could tell both fighters were tired they both sucked it in and
carried on like warriors wanting to land that big hit but both wary of each
others power, you would be mistaken to think this was an interclub at the way
these 2 where throwing down. Mike did exceptionally well in his 1st interclub
against a fighter that may have had more than a few interclub fights.

Tom Enstone (TMA) – Vs Semi Pro MMA
Fighter (No Fixed Gym)

Tom was meant to do 3 – 3 min rounds
in MMA however he ended up doing 3 x 1.5 min muay thai interclub and 2 x 3min
round in mma back 2 back

Muay Thai Bout
Round 1 – This was
a more technical and slower paced like most interclubs should be, both fighters
where tentative at 1st but built up as round progressed using good footwork
.
Round 2 – Tom used his jab well and worked his kicks, caught a few of his
opponents kicks and chose not to throw or sweep him. took a couple of shots and
countered well
Round 3 – Tom continued to push forward checking his range
with his jab and front kick, he could of used his right hand more as he
could have landed some nice shots, but done well in his 1st unplanned Muay Thai
interclub

MMA Bout
Round 1 – Tom moved in
working his jab closing distance getting in clinch then trying to work his
opponent to ground, Tom got taken down but managed to defend his ground position
well working well of his back with no cage wall to climb.Tom did well in his
active defense against an arm bar and working several escape attempts before
getting stood up and going through similar process.
Round 2 – Tom again
pushed forward to get opponent on ropes working clinch and again going for
takedown, Tom activily defended using arms and legs to hold and controll his
opponent avoiding too much ground and pound to the body, Tom avoided a guilotine
choke which is what he was most concerned about, 2 very close rounds after 4.5
mins of punching and kicking.

Both Fights were fought over 5 x
1.5 min rounds this was an interclub and the level was hard (very hard) in some
cases these could be considered novice/C Class, there was only a small margin of
difference between these fighst and a novice fight that being 16oz Gloves and
Shin guards.
We did plan on using a lot of the combinations counter movements
that are taught in class, However when the level is this high and the heat is on
we stuck to basics in order for fighters to go the distance and learn something
without getting hurt, also fighters forget a majority of stuff when someones
throwng bombs at them and as easy as it is to shout commands from the corner
there are several things going through a fighters head at the same time. So a
big well done to Mike on his 1st interclub great work Nathan on your interclub
and Good Job Tom Enstone on doing 3 rounds of thai you didnt even train
for.
